Pets and Apartments Inc. was founded in the summer of 2003, in Vancouver, BC, out of sheer frustration with being repeatedly refused a place to rent because I had a puppy (Othello). At the time there were no pet-friendly apartment listings to be found anywhere, not even on-line. This is when Othello and I started walking around town collecting pet-friendly rentals.
We met and spoke with a number of pet owners (like Catherine, on 2003-07-27
'Feedback') who made it clear they shared this frustration. It
also made me realize we are not going to make this situation any better with the
same approach of blaming governments and property managers, and them continuing
to mistrust even the most responsible pet owners.
Today, we are able to share with you the most comprehensive pet-friendly
apartment listings across North America - for the cost of gerbil food.
Plus, P&A is the first to offer the most practical solution to this ongoing
problem with our tenant/pet registry, and rental history/verification system, as
a free service to responsible pet owners. We may not be able to change the bad
habits of some, but we can record and report the good behaviour of responsible
